.hack talk

So instead of watching the raw version of .hack//LIMINALITY, I thought it was time for episode 13 of .hack//SIGN last night. And it was easily the best episode so far. Sarcastic Mimiru vs Sora talk, Tsukasa coming to terms with what he really wants, in fact the whole episode was so action-packed (in a story-developing sense). And I so loved the ending sequence with Krim and BT. BT is such a cool character *_* (And who’s that character that appeared right in front of Bear??) What a cliffhanger!

Asuka reviews, plus .hack

I managed to get a copy of Asuka 8 after all! X is briliant as always. There was nothing else that caught my attention, unfortunately, besides Onodera Akira’s Hayabusa, but that series is being released every 3 months only which makes it quite hard to follow.

Kazumi Yuana’s new series started in this issue. I haven’t read the chapter yet, just flipped through it. It’s called Fukai nemuri no hana and it has that very same weakness that all of Kazumi-sensei’s manga seem to have: It’s the same character scheme/set-up, again and again – two guys, one blond (usually the nice guy), the other with darker hair and a girl with long curly hair. Aaaa, boring.

I looooove Onodera Akira’s Hayabusa though. He mixes traditional Japanese settings and clothes with bits of modern fashion so well and thus creates a whole new version of the supposed ‘future’. The characters are all gorgeous (bishounen anyone?), I just wish that the series appeared more often than just once every three months.

I think I’m going to stop buying Asuka nevertheless. Unless Gouhou Drug returns this autumn (which it is supposed to, but you never know…), it’s goodbye to the glorious Asuka times. I always loved the fantasy stories in it but as I might have complained about earlier, the characters in most of the series are getting younger and younger and I just don’t like manga centering around 12-year-olds.

In other news, I got the OVA that came with the .hack game for PS2. .hack//LIMINALITY is the OVA’s title, it runs 45 minutes and the quality is awesome! I only managed to get a raw copy of it (I think no one has subbed it yet) and I only had the time to watch the first 10 minutes of it but I’m so amazed by its quality. The chara design is quite a bit different from the one in the game and the TV series but it’s the first time you get a view of the outside world, the real world, as the TV series concentrates on what’s happening with the characters in the game and you pretty rarely get to know what’s happening in the real world (but that’s part of the mystery, isn’t it). Speaking of which, .hack//SIGN 13 ranks number 2 of things to watch (it’s on my HD, ah), right after .hack//LIMINALITY so I better stop here ^-^

Anime nostalgia… plus .hack//SIGN

I made a surprising discovery! There is an old anime TV series about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, all with animal characters instead of human ones. I remember watching it when I was little but when I started looking for info on it online all I came up with was the opening clip of it (in French). Well, a while later I bought an Animage with a Studio Ghibli special in it and as it turns out, that Sherlock Holmes anime (or at least a few episodes of it) was written/directed by none other than Miyazaki Hayao! A few days ago, I visited nausicaa.net to get a few Japanese DVD release dates and I found out that the Sherlock Holmes series is being released on DVD in the US. I so need to buy them, just for the nostalgia’s sake^^ I still like most of the old TV series that I watched when I was little (Rascal and that Dog of Flandern series). It must be the same for the Japanese people because they still make movies out of those series, even decades after the TV series aired. Ah yes, Japan must be the best country to live in for nostalgic people ^^;

To make me forget about the fact that I’m anxiously waiting for my x-ray and blood test results to come in, I’ve been looking for a new domain (for new projects). All the good ones I came up with are already taken. Hm. I’ve also watched .hack//SIGN up to episode 9. This series is so damn addictive, a lot more than RahXephon. I love all the songs on it, to the degree that I have them in my head in the early hours of the morning when I can’t sleep. I love all of them, except the opening theme >_< Even though the story development has been dragging a bit too much (the bits about what's happening in the real world are just too few at the moment), I like the character development a lot (especially with all that little 'side events', Mimiru helping that little newbie girl, Tsukasa taking care of that girl's pet, et cetera)...
