We have tags!

I’m too busy to make a new layout for this place (and I still like it a lot too), but after the (invisible) WordPress update earlier this week I modified the blog code a bit based on the new WordPress version so we now have tags for every post and a tag cloud in the sidebar. Yay!

I’ve sorted through the huge backlog of entries and have tagged everything back until the beginning of 2005, I think. I might tag older posts whenever I have some time to spare. Going through all the older posts, I’ve realized how much I used to blog until four years ago, before I moved to Berlin. I don’t think I’ll ever again have that much time to spend on the internet like back then, but oh well, it’s not that I’m not happy with the way things are now either.

Updating this blog to latest version of WordPress: done.
(Should have done it ages ago, it looks so much better and is so much easier to use than the one I had installed previously. But I’m always worried about the update process going wrong or losing my database or something so I try to postpone updates as long as possible.)

I have nothing really important to say at the moment, except that I’m very sad and worried and at the same time I feel completely powerless because I’m not feeling sad or worried about myself. So there’s nothing I can do except write this cryptic paragraph down which must be frustrating for you, the readers, and I’m sorry about that.

So I’ll have a working telephone connection from Monday on but no DSL ;_; German Telekom (DT) is expecting me to fork out €99 just for the new DSL connection because I’m using a different ISP whose DSL flatrate is a lot cheaper. And I’m not going to pay 100 quid now. I can’t. Stupid greedy DT capitalists! That means I’ll be travelling back to the good old 56k modem days after moving. For now, I’ll be using as much of my bandwidth here as possible. (I’m uploading songs, will post them in another post in a few minutes/hours.)

On top of that, I have a hunch my poor laptop won’t survive the new 6 months. It’s sometimes making all sorts of subtle but weird noises a normal working laptop shouldn’t make and working with it doesn’t feel the way it used to… It’s hard to explain, it’s almost like I’m connected to it in a strange way; I can feel there’s something wrong with it without knowing the exact technical causes, I just know it’s going to die rather sooner than later ;_; I guess I can’t complain much because it’s been running so smoothly these past three years but I wish it would work another 1-2 years in order to keep my bank account from collapsing.

Tomorrow I’ll have a marathon packing session including a lot of angsting and panicking. Looking forward to that quite a bit -_-; The site updates will have to wait till next week. I’m almost done and have already uploaded the large image files so I won’t have to do that with my slow connection next week but the updated HTML files won’t be uploaded until in a few days.

Oh God, I’m so nervous.

New layout, which marks the return of the almighty sidebar! Tweaking the original theme to suit my layout was so much easier than I’d thought. The comments page doesn’t look just like it’s supposed to but it’s just a minor thing and everything else works so well, I’m even a bit surprised about how smooth the layout change went.
I suppose this means I’ll never ever switch back to Blogger because now I am 100% sure I’m fully able to modify WordPress on my own.
And look, we now have a sexy little Firefox button on the left to spread the love :)

Hello World, hello WordPress.

We’re back from hiatus with a new layout featuring my lovely catboy. It should work in both IE and Firefox (which I’m starting to prefer to IE).
I don’t think I’ve ever survived this long without blogging since I started keeping a weblog… I haven’t really missed writing because I’ve been extremely busy. I did manage to keep up with everyone’s blogs and LJs though, so none of your entries escaped my eyes ;)

After 3 years of being a faithful Blogger user, I decided to switch to WordPress. I thought I’d never get it to work but I did, so here we go. Hurray, WordPress. I love all those special features Blogger doesn’t have. Categories!! Site search!! I’ll also leave the comments on, even though I’m sure they are pretty much unnecessary.
I imported all my old Blogger entries. The formating/encoding might be a bit buggy at times but oh well. I’m glad the importing went so well.

I’ll post proper entries again starting tomorrow. A lot happened so I have enough material to write and ramble about!
